What is PPSLA?

The Phoenix Police Sergeants and Lieutenants Association is the exclusive employee association authorized by the City of Phoenix to represent all sergeants and lieutenants as it relates to wages, fringe benefi ts, and working conditions in accordance with the Meet and Discuss Ordinance.

PPSLA is managed by an Executive Board consisting of nine experienced board members from around the department including a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and fi ve Trustees. We have two full time release positions, i.e., the President and Discipline & Grievance Chairperson, to provide around the clock service, representation and support as well as many peer volunteers who assist PPSLA.

Administrative Legal Protection

Police supervisors are extremely vulnerable to civil and criminal action. You do not want to be caught without adequate legal coverage. PPSLA membership affords you administrative, civil, and criminal legal protection.

Protection

PPSLA members also receive civil and criminal legal protection via the Legal Defense Fund (LDF) for charges and claims that arise in the course of your employment, including shootings, pursuits/accidents, excessive force, and other incidents that result in death or serious injury. PPSLA members have a long list of experienced attorneys ready to represent them, and there is NO CAP on this coverage. You can contact the LDF at 1-800-255-5610.

Your City/Department Voice

PPSLA represents membership at all levels of the department and city by serving on approximately 35 boards and committees, as well as providing critical input for management selection processes. We also meet regularly through labor-management, which is represented by both PPD and city executives, to resolve issues and identify employee concerns.

Your State Voice

Having state representation is extremely important for police employees to protect and enhance retirement benefi ts,overtime, adequate equipment, due process rights, etc., and to create effective legislation that benefi ts law enforcement.

PPSLA is a member of the Arizona Police Association (APA), which is an association of employee groups providing us with an amplifi ed law enforcement "voice” within our community and state legislature. Through the APA, we employ the full time lobbying fi rm of Williams & Associates, and endorse political candidates. For more information, please log on to www.azpolice.org.
